Virat Kohli trolled for offering to share tips on celebrating ‘meaningful Diwali’: You need to focus on batting

India cricket team captain Virat Kohli has been facing flak from a section of his followers after he offered to share tips on celebrating a “meaningful Diwali”. Kohli took to Twitter on Sunday, sharing a video in which he said he will be sharing some of his thoughts on celebrating the festival amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“it’s been a tough year for all of us all around the world, especially in India with wave 2 (Covid-19) hitting us in 2021. As we get ready for Diwali in this festive season, I will be sharing some of my tips for you to celebrate with loved ones and family,” Kohli said in his post.

Kohli maintained that he will be sharing his personal tips over the next few weeks but did not get into details, urging his followers to keep following his handle on social media platform, Pinterest.

However, his comments on the video seem to have offended some social media users who proceeded to brutally troll the India captain.

A few even took a dig at Virat Kohli’s batting form in competitive cricket, urging him to focus on improving his numbers in the lead up to the T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli is one of the biggest brand names in the cricket fraternity and his social media following is ever-growing. But along with praise, Kohli has often dealt with criticism. The India skipper’s performances in the past have been questioned and he has played down criticism, calling it “outside noise”.

Kohli is all set for a crucial tournament in his celebrated career as the star cricketer will lead India in the T20 World Cup, which got underway on October 17. Having announced he will be stepping down as India’s T20I captain after the World Cup in the UAE, Kohli will be determined to win his maiden ICC trophy as captain as bow out on a high.

Notably, Kohli finished his Indian Premier League captaincy career without a trophy as Royal Challengers Bangalore were knocked out in the play-offs of IPL 2021 earlier this month.

Kohli decided to give up IPL and T20I captaincy, citing workload management. However, the skipper maintained that he would continue to lead India in ODIs and Tests.

“Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for the last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian team in Test and ODI cricket,” Kohli had said.

“I have given everything to the team during my time as T20 captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 team as a batsman moving forward.”

India kickstart their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai before which they will play two warm-up matches in the UAE.
